These days one of the most commonly talked about things is stress.  While for many the word stress is nothing but an excuse to cover up their shortcomings more often that stress is a major factor which is the root cause for many problems faced by people in their day to days lives.  The problems range from arguments between couples to between clashes between colleagues at workplace.

The past two decades have seen more number of love marriages and surprisingly more number of divorces and relationships outside marriage. There have been more differences between parents and children during this period than at any point of time.  The period has also said more dissatisfied employees and dissatisfied bosses.  All the problems are linked to one common reason which is explained below.

Advancement in technology:- The early nineties saw a huge advancement in technology when the labour of manual work was cut down drastically thanks to usage of computers.  A clerk who had to spend about 10 hours writing 150 odd invoices had the  luxury of doing the same thing comfortably in 3 hours saving time, effort and pain. There was a time when employees had to take permission from their bosses to go to bank then wait for hours to withdraw cash and get back to office.  What used to take the employee almost half a day he can do so at his convenience in a couple of minutes from the ATM.  Internet has given person luxuries like booking railway tickets at home which early used to take a few hours in the queue and the pain to make arrangements to reach a book a book station.

Lack of Patience:- If you look at the above situation today a person is not required to have patience as things are only a click away from a computer or from the keypad of your mobile and it is no wonder a person begins to expect the same from the other person.  A person when he reaches home from office expects tea from his wife in the same speed he expects cash from a ATM counter and much in the same vein a wife expect husband to deliver her household requirements at the same speed a online booking is done through the net.  The high level of expectancy from the other person and lack of patience gets carried forward even to emotional issues which sometimes even results in divorce or a relationship outside marriage and one must say it is not justifiable because it could have been resolved if either of the partners or both of them have shown some patience and expected their partner not to be a machine.

The same thing gets carried forward to workplace as bosses expect the same speed from their subordinates as they expect from a ATM machine.  Even if a subordinate is given a task by his boss the he requires a minimal time to go through the task, try to understand it and then execute it but in most cases bosses do not even allow the subordinate the time to understand the task or grasp it.  The result is the boss begins to have a hatred for the subordinate and vice versa and the result is that both of them work under a great deal of stress at the workplace and invariably that gets carried over to their homes.

Today parents and children's face the same problems couples at home and colleagues at office have been facing.  Many children feel that their parents are not doing enough for them while many parents tend to over expect too much from their children in too short a time.  Parents expect their children to be brilliant in studies and extra curricular activities like sports, dances and a host of other things and that too at a short time and the end result is strained relationships.

While the advancement in technology has done a lot of good as it has made our lives more easier, convenient and comfortable it has brought its own disadvantages as people have lost the art of having patience.  Today nobody wants to wait in a queue even for a few minutes while paying a utility bill as they either keep on grumbling against the person sitting in the counter or in most cases would have engaged himself in a argument with the person.  Instances like this by instinct are acceptable one in a while but then this sort of instances are repeated day in and day out.  We cannot blame technology as technology is there to assist us and the onus is on us to inculcate some patience in our day to day lives which goes a long way in minimizing problems and even avoiding should we put little more effort.
