Everybody love elephants especially childern. Mostly we can see two types of elephants African and Asian. The ears of African

elephants are little bigger than the ones in Asia.

Elephants are seen as a symbol of Lord Ganesha.Many temples in Kerala and Tamilnadu are having elephants.Guruvayoor temple in

kerala has got an elephant farm in which around 40 elephants are there.The elephants in temple are usually decorated with

holyashes.For many children it gives plenty of joy and fun to  give fruits to elephant and get its blessing.

Elephants have acted in many tamil films doing excellent stunts and tricks.

Elephants participate in festivals conducted in Thrissur and Guruvayoour.Also the elephants participate in the famour Dasara

procession in mysore every year.These elephants will be decorated with flowers,silk cloth,colored umbrellas and decorated fans.

One more important festival is the elephant festival conducted in Jaipur.Elephants will be decorated beautifully and will walk,

participate in races and move  in procession in front of a huge audience. This is usually celebrated in the month of March during

the time of Holi festivals. Many foreign tourists come to jaipur especially to watch this festival.

Elephants are pure vegeterians.So they eat only plants. For the elephants the gestation ( pregnancy ) period is twice that of the

women. It usually takes close to 21 months to deliver a calf.

The memory power of elephants is very strong. They can recognise their own species or humans even after years.Elephants will

stand most of the times.Even it sleeps while standing.

We should preserve this wonderful species. Many people kill elephants for its ivory tusks.
